Everything you need to know about Hampta Pass Trek
The months beginning in the middle of June and ending in September provide the best opportunity to fully appreciate every step of the journey. During this time period, the temperature will range from 13 to 18 degrees Celsius on average during the day, and it will drop to a low of 0 degrees Celsius at night. This will occur during the winter season. The snow conditions in June are the reason why hikers consider June to be a particularly memorable month for Hampta Pass.
The difficulty level of the walk across Hampta Pass is not particularly high; rather, it is of a moderate level. Trekkers who already have some experience will find it to their liking, while those who are just starting out may find it to be extremely difficult. In a perfect world, all the expertise one could need to cross Hampta Pass would have been gained on either one or two previous hikes to lower altitude routes.

The walk brings hikers to an elevation that is 1,530 metres higher in only two to three days, making the risk of developing altitude sickness quite significant. Maintaining proper hydration during this trip is of the highest significance in the prevention of acute mountain sickness. The very steep descent from Shea Goru to Chatru has the potential to make some hikers feel sick to their stomachs.
One other thing to keep in mind is that the route leading to Chandratal, which is going to take around three hours in a vehicle to go, is quite dusty. Asthmatic patients may have complications as a result of this, thus it is essential for them to take additional measures, such as wearing an anti-dust 5 ply mask to prevent breathing in the dust and keeping their inhalers close at hand.
It is possible to go to Manali, the bustling tourist destination in Himachal Pradesh, from a number of significant cities in India. Bhuntar is home to the closest airport, and Joginder Nagar Train Station is where passengers may board trains heading in that direction. Nevertheless, arriving at the Chandigarh airport and then taking a bus or a taxi to Manali is the method that is recommended as the most convenient way to get to Manali.
The journey into Hampta Valley begins at Jobra, which is reachable by taxi from Manali and serves as the starting point for the trip. They are shared taxis, and the cost of the journey, which is around USD 34 (INR 2500), is supposed to be split equally among all of the passengers.
The beginning of the trail to the Hampta Pass is located at Jobra, which can be reached by automobile from Manali. If the snow melts towards the end of June, visitors may be able to drive all the way to Chika, which is located two kilometres from Jobra. Nevertheless, beyond that point, automobiles are not allowed to proceed; the path leading up to the pass itself is reserved only for hikers.
The majority of the way to Hampta follows a well-marked and spacious path that is broad enough to accommodate all of the hikers who are making their way there. Having said that, the walk is not without its share of potential dangers and hazards. In the event that glaciers continue to melt during the months of July, August, and September, there may be many stream crossings along the path leading to Jwara and Chatru. The crossing of the creek requires extreme caution due to the possibility that the slick rocks that you are walking on may give way. That is the perfect situation for constructing a human chain by connecting elbows and crossing together in order to prevent any mishaps.
If the hiker has not yet reached the pass, they must retrace their steps all the way back to Jobra, and if they have already reached the pass, they must continue on the trail all the way to Chatru. There are no exit points along the trail in the event that a hiker is forced to abandon their journey due to an unexpected event. Taxis may be flagged down at any of these two locations and taken to the Mission Hospital, which is Manali's closest medical facility.
On the Hampta path, you are free to walk by yourself if you so desire. Nevertheless, only experienced hikers should do this, since it might become difficult to identify the correct route when it vanishes for a bit at Balu ka Ghera and the top of the pass. Only experienced hikers should attempt this. Alone hiking may be dangerous in the event of an emergency since the only way to get assistance is to wait for another hiker or a group to pass by.
