Everything you need to know about Kashmir Great Lakes Trek
The months of July through September are ideal for embarking on a hike to Kashmir's Great Lakes because of the pleasant weather. This is the time of year when the weather in this region is temperate, and you can take advantage of the opportunity to explore the natural surroundings without having to contend with any unfavourable circumstances, such as extreme cold or high temperatures.
During your time hiking the Great Lakes of Kashmir, you will notice a significant drop in temperature between the day and night. The daytime temperatures vary from 17 to 20 degrees Celsius, while the nighttime temperatures range from 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.
This excursion will take you to a number of different lakes, including Dal Lake, Vishansar Lake, Gangabal and Nundkol Lake, Azure Lake Waters, Yamsar Lake, Gadsar Lake, and Satsar Lakes (group of seven lakes).
If you wish to, you may go on the Kashmir Big Lakes hike by yourself. This is not a problem. Although while going on vacation with a large group might reduce your expenses, if you don't care about saving money, you should feel free to go by yourself. In the event that there is an unexpected problem, it is wise to go with a guide who is familiar enough with the local topography and culture.
With a difficulty level that ranges from simple to intermediate, this is one of the most secure treks in Kashmir. Those of you who are going trekking for the very first time will find that it is an excellent choice. In spite of the fact that several cities in the region are experiencing political problems, the route itself is a rather calm environment.
Hikers can begin their journey through Kashmir's Great Lakes any time between the months of July and September. This is the case since Kashmir is subject to harsh weather throughout the other months of the year, which makes travelling over the snow a difficult endeavour.
You will have access to portable toilet tents while you are on the walk. Since wet wipes cannot be broken down in natural processes, we ask that you refrain from using them. During the course of the walk, there won't be access to any restrooms.
If you have a prepaid mobile phone in Kashmir, your SIM card will not work since the government there has limited roaming due to security concerns (postpaid connections are fine). Only postpaid connections in Srinagar are able to work properly. As you are on your travels, you can come across a few BSNL, Vodafone, or Airtel calling networks here and there. There may or may not be access to the internet.
At every given moment, we place the utmost importance on both our safety and our security. So, it is not a risk for women and girls to come with us on our hikes and trips. Our trek leaders stay with the group at all times, and each of our campsites has been checked to ensure that it is secure and safe for guests to stay there. On most of our hikes, we are also accompanied by female trek leaders who are also our guides.
The Kashmir Big Lakes Trek is one of the most well-known routes for hikers, whereas the Tarsar Marsar Trek is known for being less travelled and more isolated. The former has rough paths and a variety of sceneries, while the later provides access to a wide variety of lush vegetation. The KGL trip, on the other hand, ranges from moderately tough to difficult, while the later walk is just moderate.
